(Shenyang) BMW Brilliance Automotive Ltd. (BBA) is fully implementing its localisation strategy and laying the foundations for the next phase of its high-quality development. On April 26, BBA held the groundbreaking ceremony of its Plant Dadong extension project in Shenyang. The extension project will further upgrade BBA’s Shenyang production base and future-proof the Dadong production system. Start of production at the Plant Dadong extension is scheduled for 2022.
“The Plant Dadong extension proves once again our strong and ongoing commitment to Shenyang, Liaoning and Northeast China. During our 15th Anniversary last year, we made a pledge to continue investing and to continue on our high-quality development path. With construction already starting on our expanded production facilities in Tiexi and Dadong, we are delivering on our promises,” said Dr. Johann Wieland, President & CEO of BMW Brilliance.
The BMW Brilliance Plant Dadong was where the localisation of BMW vehicles in China began. Today, the plant is a pioneer of “Industry 4.0” automotive production. Upon completion of the extension, the Dadong production system will be 100% flexible to manufacture combustion and electrified vehicles, and capable of producing a broader range of BMW models. This increased flexibility will enable BBA to respond quickly to future market trends and changing customer needs.
Besides the production system upgrade, new infrastructure will be constructed as part of the Plant Dadong extension project. A railway connection will be established which, once operational, will directly transport finished BMW vehicles from Plant Dadong to Dalian Port and Regional Distribution Centres across China. At the same time, a new high-speed vehicle test track will be built-up on-site at Plant Dadong. In line with BBA’s sustainability strategy, the Plant Dadong extension and accompanying infrastructure has been designed to maximise resource-efficiency and minimize environmental impact.
BBA is implementing the future development strategy of its shareholders through continuous investment and innovation. The Plant Dadong extension groundbreaking comes less than 6 months after the joint venture broke ground on a major extension of Plant Tiexi and a year after the joint venture started construction of Phase II of its High Voltage Battery Centre. With these major expansion projects, BBA is further building up its Shenyang production base and laying the strongest foundations for its long-term sustainable development.
